"[The Faithful] are more perfectly bound to the Church by the sacrament of Confirmation, and the Holy Spirit endows them with special strength so that they are more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith, both by word and by deed, as true witnesses of Christ."
Lumen Gentium 11
Preparing to Become True Witnesses of Christ
Formal preparation at St. Stephen for the reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation begins in the fall of a student’s 8th-grade year. Candidates for the sacrament must be enrolled in either the parish’s school or Youth Ministry Program as part of their Confirmation Preparation. In addition, there are four required Confirmation sessions as well as parent/candidate meeting. Families of 8th-grade students who are signed up will be mailed Confirmation enrollment forms that fall. The actual date of Confirmation is determined by the Diocese of Grand Rapids and is normally announced at the end of November.
- Parents: talk about why you chose to get your child baptized
- Parents and older siblings: talk to the candidate about your own Confirmation experience.
- Candidates: begin researching Catholic Saints who may be a good patron and Confirmation name.
- As a family:
Begin or continue a devotion to the Holy Spirt, aksing for His guidance.
Participate in the sacraments together (i.e. Mass & Confession).
