The Sacrament of Baptism

Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: ‘Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.

Baptism at Our Parish

For the time being, Baptisms at St. Stephen will be performed outside of the Mass one weekend* of every month and rotate between 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and 9:30 a.m. on Sunday in between the Masses. A full schedule is listed below. Due to restrictions related to the ongoing pandemic, we are also able to do baptisms at other dates/times not listed below. Please contact the parish office at (616) 243-8998 ext 201 or contact us. Parents who are baptizing their first child must attend a baptismal preparation class.

If you are discerning baptism as an adult, please contact , our Coordinator of Faith Formation, or see our page regarding the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults for more information.

*At this time, we are only able to accommodate one family per date. Because of this, we are adding more dates outside of the schedule. Please contact the parish office to reserve a date. Dates are subject to change at the discretion of the Pastor and to accommodate other parish activities. We will make every effort to give as much advance notice as possible should a date need to be rescheduled.
